Hello! My name is Soo Jin King but most people just call me Soo. I grew up in Los Angeles but hail from Seoul, South Korea (I was 3 when I stepped foot in the states) and continue to enjoy living here in sunny California in all it's beautiful diversity.
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Otis Art Institute in Illustration and Communication Design and have worked as a freelance illustrator before my 30 year career in Animation. I had specialized in Color, Texture, and Light including hair/fur/grass grooming in Animation and not the animating. Animation is a highly collaborative art form that employs so many different kinds of artists that people forget that there is more to it than just animating.
During my Animation career, I have had the pleasure of designing in 2d and 3d, Digital painting, Color Design, Surfacing, Hair/Fur/Grass grooming, Lighting, and Compositing. I have also supervised overseas teams of artists during my role as Lead Surfacing Artist for DreamWorks Television Animation so am well versed at bridging the gap between artists and production.
Currently I am a freelance artist and educator but when I'm not painting, drawing, teaching, or art modeling, I like to dabble in photography, spending time in nature, and writing my story. Please follow me on Instagram to see my creative journey as it unfolds @skdoodlebug.
I am available for group classes, events, private lesson, and commissions. I can teach digital (photoshop/procreate and more!) or traditional (drawing and painting). I am great with people of all ages and abilities! I am also able to hold uninstructed costumed figure drawing sessions too in short poses, long pose, or a combination thereof.
And for more fun merchandise such as t-shirts, stickers, etc,, please visit my ecommerce store at https://redtigersxd.threadless.com/ where a portion of every purchase is donated to various great causes, or contact me for fine art prints. I use CatPrint.com for my prints on heavyweight Hemp card stock, where a portion of the sales go to animal rescue. You may be able to see me in person at the next Frogtown Arts event!
